Calgary Gallery Showcases Artwork by Newcomers from Ukraine

A southeast Calgary art gallery is currently hosting an exhibition that showcases depictions of the atrocities in Ukraine, as well as the journey out of the war-torn country, from those who have firsthand experience. The exhibit, located at The Collectors’ Gallery of Art in Inglewood, features artwork from 10 Ukrainian artists, including nine who now reside in Calgary and one photographer who remains in Ukraine. This collection offers insightful perspectives into the emotions surrounding leaving one’s homeland after the Russian invasion.

The owner of The Collectors Gallery of Art, Romana Kaspar-Kraft, expressed that the artwork deeply resonates with her. “It hits me in the heart. It really does. There are some really sad stories, but they show it through their art, and many of them are quite uplifting and happy,” she said. “They have so much hope.”

Each piece in the collection is available for sale, with all proceeds benefiting the artists. Other local artists have also generously donated their work to the gallery for a silent auction in support of the Ukrainian artists. The exhibition will be on display until Sept. 3.
