Russian man who carved ‘No to War’ in the snow jailed for 10 days
A Russian man received a jail sentence of 10 days for using his finger to carve “No to War” on a snow-covered turnstile at Moscow’s Gorky Park. Dmitry Fyodorov, who admitted to writing the anti-war slogan, was charged with disobeying the police and refusing to go to a police station.
Following Russia’s military involvement in Ukraine, dissent has been discouraged, leading to nearly 20,000 detentions and over 800 criminal cases. Fyodorov was also fined for writing “No to War.”
Russia’s defense ministry claimed that its forces have seized control of a village near the town of Bakhmut in Donetsk, Ukraine. The village, Artemovskoye, was “liberated” by Russia’s southern group of forces, although no official response from Ukraine has been reported.
Ahead of a NATO meeting in Brussels, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken reassured Ukraine of the enduring support from the United States and NATO. Meanwhile, tensions between Finland and Russia have escalated as Finland decided to close its border, which Russia criticized as an excessive measure.
