Breaking Record: Bayern Munich Maintains Unbeaten Streak in Champions League for 37 Games

The incredible run continues for Bayern Munich. On Tuesday, the Rekordmeister secured a 3-1 victory against Turkish giants Galatasaray in Istanbul. Goals by Kingsley Coman (8’), Harry Kane (74’), and Jamal Musiala (80’) sealed the win for Bayern. Mauro Icardi scored for Galatasaray from the spot (30’).

This result sets three new records for Bayern: their eighth consecutive Champions League group stage away win, their 16th consecutive group stage win, and their 37th group stage game without defeat.

Despite dominating the last 20 minutes, Bayern faced a tougher challenge than anticipated. Coman’s early goal came as a surprise, and there were doubts about the penalty given to Galatasaray. Icardi’s equalizer was well-deserved.

“It was a tense match,” said Coman in an interview with Amazon Prime. “They put a lot of pressure on us, but we found more space in the second half and capitalized on it. I love playing in atmospheres like this. The adrenaline is incredible.”

Until the 70th minute, Galatasaray continued to threaten Bayern Munich, creating chances but failing to find a breakthrough against a Bayern side visibly affected by the noise generated by the home fans at RAMS Park.

“I’ve had the privilege of coaching many dominant teams recently, but this kind of situation can always happen. Galatasaray has a very strong team, and we weren’t at our best in the first half,” commented Bayern Munich head coach Thomas Tuchel, referring to the 16 shots conceded by his team in the opening half. “They caused us problems, but it was important for us to respond, which we did.”

The second half saw Bayern respond strongly. Bayern withstood the pressure from Galatasaray and gradually drained their opponents’ energy. In the 74th minute, Harry Kane’s goal proved decisive and secured victory for Bayern.

“This is a very important win,” praised Bayern Munich head coach Thomas Tuchel. “Well done to our team. Galatasaray hadn’t lost in 17 games this season. We had difficulties in the first half, losing many duels and struggling in one-on-one situations. Galatasaray had too many opportunities, and we suffered a lot.”

Kane’s goal changed the course of the game, and only six minutes later, the Englishman assisted Musiala to double Bayern’s lead. “This win is incredibly significant,” expressed Kane in an interview with Amazon Prime. “This is a challenging place to play. The stadium and the fans create a difficult environment. We had a tough time, especially in the first half. But we were more composed and improved in the second half, taking advantage of our chances. Having nine points from three games is crucial.”

With nine points, Bayern can secure a spot in the next round by defeating Galatasaray at home in two weeks’ time. This early qualification will be welcomed by head coach Tuchel, considering Bayern’s lack of squad depth. Despite Noussair Mazraoui’s return to the lineup, only seven players were available on the bench.

Considering these circumstances, Bayern will be pleased with the away victory and the opportunity to rotate players in the last two Champions League games. However, there is no time to relax, as they face Darmstadt in their upcoming weekend match, followed by a DFB Pokal fixture against Saarbrücken next week, and then the highly-anticipated Klassiker against Dortmund on November 5th.
