Breaking News: Suspect Charged with Murder in Palmdale Deputy Sheriff’s Alleged Killing

The man accused of the fatal ambush shooting of a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy in Palmdale has been charged with murder. Kevin Eduardo Cataneo Salazar, 29, appeared in court and pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. Salazar, who is described by his relatives as mentally ill, was arrested after a standoff with law enforcement, which ended when he was flushed out with chemical agents. If convicted, Salazar will face a maximum sentence of life without parole, as Los Angeles County District Attorney opposes the death penalty. Salazar’s family claims he is mentally ill and not in his right mind, suffering from schizophrenia, paranoia, and hearing voices. The motive for the shooting remains unknown.
