A single-engine plane crashes onto a soccer field in the Wilmington area, critically injuring both occupants.
The incident occurred at 12:53 p.m. in the 400 block of West Westmont Drive, as stated by Margaret Stewart from the Los Angeles Fire Department.
“Upon the arrival of LAFD, the pilot was still inside the plane and had to be extricated,” said Stewart in a press release.
“Both patients were transported in critical condition,” Stewart stated. “There were no reports of fire or additional casualties.”
Medical reports confirm that both individuals were taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
According to an LAFD spokesperson, the flight originated in Torrance.
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. The National Transportation Safety Board will assume control of the investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
“This plane crashed into the Field of Dreams,” remarked county Supervisor Janice Hahn, who represents the area, on X, formerly known as Twitter. “We’ve received news that the pilot and a passenger have been transported to the hospital in critical condition. Our thoughts and prayers are with them, and we’re thankful that no one on the ground was harmed.”
