Eli Lilly and Company has made significant executive leadership changes, following the retirement of Mike Mason, who served as the executive vice president and president of the Diabetes and Obesity division. The company stated that Patrik Jonsson, currently serving as the Lilly USA president, will take over Mason’s role in addition to his current responsibilities.

Lilly has also announced that Dr. Daniel Skovronsky will assume the position of president of Lilly Immunology alongside his roles as chief scientific officer and president of Lilly Research Laboratories. Furthermore, Leigh Ann Pusey, the vice president of corporate affairs and communications, has decided to leave the company by the end of 2023.

David A. Ricks, Chair and CEO of Lilly, expressed confidence in the company’s ability to deliver life-changing medicines, stating, “The deep experience of our leadership team ensures that we will continue to accelerate our efforts in effective, innovative ways.”

As part of the restructuring, Dr. David Hyman will become Lilly’s chief medical officer, and Jennifer Oleksiw will be promoted to group vice president. Additionally, Dr. Mark Genovese will join Lilly as the senior vice president of immunology development. Genovese previously held senior positions at Gilead Sciences and Stanford University.

This leadership reshuffle follows Eli Lilly’s acquisition of Versanis, a private clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on weight-loss drugs, for $1.9 billion in July.
