Boosting Security Measures: Increased Patrols in LA, Beverly Hills Following Recent Hamas Attack

Police increase security and patrols around Jewish institutions in Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, and Santa Monica following Hamas attack on Israel.

“The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) recognizes the turmoil in the Middle East and the lives lost. In areas where we serve both Jewish and Muslim communities, we will conduct extra patrols to ensure everyone’s safety,” stated LAPD Chief Michel Moore on X.

“We condemn Hamas’ act of terrorism against Israeli citizens and civilian communities,” expressed Beverly Hills Mayor Julian Gold. “We call on President Biden, Congress, peace-loving nations, and the United Nations to swiftly condemn this violence. Our hearts are with Israel as we stand together to support its defense and condemn this heinous act.”

Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger affirmed her solidarity with the Jewish community. “Hamas’ violent and deadly attack on Israel was barbaric,” she said. “Violence abroad has a ripple effect and reaches every corner of the globe. I send my prayers to those in Israel and our local Jewish communities who are feeling their pain.”

The Santa Monica Police Department’s watch commander shared that extra checks had been directed to their cars after seeing the news.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department announced increased activity. “LASDHQ is monitoring the situation in the Middle East and conducting extra patrol checks in our areas, remaining vigilant. We are closely collaborating with federal and local law enforcement partners,” the department posted on X.

Hamas, founded in 1987, launched the attack on Saturday morning, firing thousands of rockets into Israeli towns and sending ground forces from the Gaza Strip, disputing Israel’s right to territory.

Israel reported over 200 people killed, with hundreds wounded. An unknown number of soldiers and civilians were captured and taken to Gaza as hostages. Retaliatory fighting resulted in the deaths of more than 230 Palestinians.

Israel informed that a second round of rockets were launched Saturday evening, hitting multiple locations including Tel Aviv.

The attacks occurred on the 50th anniversary of the “Yom Kippur War” where Israel was attacked by a coalition of Arab states.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared, “We are at war” in a televised address, vowing vengeance. President Joe Biden expressed support for Israel, and local leaders in the Southland condemned the attack.

Biden offered support and condolences to Israel, stating, “Today, I spoke with @IsraeliPM about the appalling Hamas terrorist attacks in Israel. @FLOTUS and I express our heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost loved ones.”

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass joined voices across the nation in condemning the attack. “My thoughts are with those families this morning. Angelenos stand with those under siege mourning loss. May their memories be a blessing,” she said.

Rabbi Noah Farkas, president and CEO of The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles, expressed solidarity and offered support to Israel.

Students for Justice in Palestine at UCLA released a statement emphasizing the Palestinian perspective and the resistance against occupation.

The Muslim Public Affairs Council called on the international community to address the root causes and end the violence, urging the United States to use its influence to protect the rights of the Palestinian people.

The U.S. State Department provided information for U.S. citizens seeking to contact the U.S. Embassy in Israel.
