BPA Discovered in Sports Bras and Workout Leggings, Numerous Items Available for Purchase in Canada – National News

Major athletic clothing brands selling their products worldwide have been discovered to contain high levels of the toxic chemical BPA, including in Canada. The Center for Environmental Health (CEH) sent legal notices to eight athletics brands on May 17 after testing showed elevated amounts of the chemical in their sports bras, leggings, shirts, and shorts. Brands examined included Adidas, Athleta, Champion, Fabletics, Kohl’s, New Balance, Nike, Patagonia, Pink, The North Face and Reebok. CEH found BPA levels 40 times over the California limit. California has imposed its own restrictions on the chemical. Despite Canada having no similar comprehensive ban, use has been restricted to some degree. BPA is an industrial chemical used in the production of polycarbonate plastic, commonly used in food and beverage containers. It has been linked to a range of health problems, including brain and behavioral issues, high blood pressure, and infertility.
