Immersed in the realm of nutrition and meal preparation, I confess my novice status. Although my eating habits are not terrible—I consume fruits and vegetables daily while avoiding sugary beverages and highly processed foods like Pop-Tarts—it never occurred to me to consider the macronutrients in each meal or to check the sugar and salt content of my food. It was only when I embarked on the DASH diet, which emphasizes limiting salt and added sugar, that I swiftly learned these vital lessons.

Furthermore, I must admit that I am far from being a morning person, and my breakfast usually consists of a mere cup of coffee. However, during my DASH diet exploration, I resolved to prioritize breakfast to prevent myself from succumbing to impulsive sugary snacks as a temporary source of sustenance before lunch.

I commend myself on successfully adhering to a DASH-approved breakfast routine each morning, and I am delighted to report the surprising results. My go-to breakfast choice consisted of zero-fat Greek yogurt accompanied by low-sugar granola and blueberries, occasionally enhanced with a touch of almond butter. On some mornings, I opted for 100% whole grain oatmeal without any added sugar.

Notably, these breakfast options were conveniently and swiftly prepared, guaranteeing that I would indeed partake in the morning meal. Previously, anything other than coffee consumed in the morning would trigger a wave of nausea. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that these breakfasts were light enough to be easily digested and even enjoyed at 8 a.m., right upon waking.

Enlighteningly, after consuming my breakfast meals, I discovered that I no longer craved a cup of coffee. My energy levels remained stable, and I felt fully awake, thereby aiding me in managing the initial spike of anxiety that typically plagues me during the first few hours of the day.
