Billy Nomates clip removed from BBC’s Glastonbury Twitter post due to online abuse

The talented artist, Tor Maries, who is known by her stage name Billy Nomates, expressed her concerns about online abuse following her performance at the Glastonbury Festival. She requested Radio 6 Music to remove a clip featuring her performance after receiving hurtful comments on social media. The level of personal attacks was described as “insane,” and she even mentioned that she might not continue performing after this summer’s shows.

In response to Billy Nomates’ request, a representative from the BBC stated that they respected her decision and removed the clip from their social channels. However, they emphasized that the full set is still available for audiences to enjoy on BBC iPlayer.

Renowned singer-songwriter Billy Bragg showed his support for Billy Nomates, expressing solidarity through a tweet. He assured her that she will always have a place in the music industry, mentioning her outstanding performance at the Left Field stage last year.

Billy Nomates shared a non-deleted post on her Twitter account, denouncing the excessive personal abuse she received on BBC 6 Music’s social media platforms. She requested the removal of all footage and highlighted that while she understands that her music may not resonate with everyone, the level of personal attacks on the public page was unacceptable. She also expressed her intention to quit performing after this summer, stating that no one should tolerate such treatment in their workplace.

Billy Nomates, who released her first self-titled studio album in 2020 and followed it up with “Cacti” earlier this year, performed at the Left Field stage during last year’s Glastonbury Festival. At present, her representatives have not provided any comments regarding the situation.
