Biden’s Potential Iran Deal: A Threat to Unravel Abraham Accords Three Years in the Making

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

While American citizens are still waiting for the economic benefits promised to them under “Bidenomics,” Iran is enjoying the financial boost it received from the Biden administration’s policies.

Despite the U.S. claiming to have imposed sanctions on Iran, the country has experienced a five-year high in oil exports, resulting in a significant increase in revenue. Furthermore, the administration approved $6 billion in response to Iran’s hostage diplomacy tactics. As a result, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force (IRGC-QF), a recognized Foreign Terrorist Organization, has raised the salaries of its proxies by 13 percent. This provides ample support for the IRGC-QF and its proxies to carry out deadly attacks on American citizens, target our allies, and pose a threat to the entire region.

These developments have significant implications for American security at home, as well as for our allies and partners in the Middle East who are geographically close to the world’s leading sponsor of terrorism.

As we commemorate the third anniversary of the Abraham Accords, the most substantial step towards peace in the Middle East, it is crucial that we strengthen our partnerships in the face of escalating Iranian aggression.

Aristotle once said, “A common danger unites even the bitterest enemies.” This quote rings true when considering the Abraham Accords. The foundation of these accords lies in a shared interest in security, which has fostered thriving relationships, ranging from free trade agreements to advancements in inter-faith dialogues. These breakthroughs represent the dramatic changes unfolding in the Middle East, as U.S. partners collaborate to combat terrorism.

As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and a combat veteran who served in Iraq and Kuwait, I deeply appreciate the importance of the Accords. That’s why I co-founded the Senate Abraham Accords Caucus, which has played a significant role in promoting my bipartisan legislation to bring our partners together. We have already achieved remarkable success.

SEN. TOM COTTON: BIDEN’S HORRIBLE IRAN DEAL WILL LEAD TO MORE HOSTAGE TAKING

Last year, all eight co-chairs of the Caucus, representing both the House and the Senate across party lines, joined forces to support my DEFEND Act. This legislation collaborates with our partners to establish an integrated air and missile defense system to counter the threat posed by Iran and its violent proxies. Since its enactment, we have already witnessed progress. Consequently, we are advancing the MARITIME Act to facilitate a similar integration at sea, which is of growing importance as Iran escalates its naval aggression.

While Congress can lay the groundwork for the Accords, we cannot compel the president to project strength.

Abraham Accords signing

WASHINGTON, DC – SEPTEMBER 15: (L-R) Foreign Affairs Minister of Bahrain Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Foreign Affairs Minister of the United Arab Emirates Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan participate in the signing ceremony of the Abraham Accords on the South Lawn of the White House on September 15, 2020 in Washington, DC. This summer, the UAE, a U.S. partner, suspended its engagement with the U.S.-led maritime forces in the region due to frustration with the Biden administration’s failure to enforce the law in response to Iran’s illegal seizure of an oil tanker traveling between two UAE ports. This incident clearly demonstrates how appeasing Iran threatens the progress made through the Abraham Accords and jeopardizes the stability they have brought.

This is why I have taken the lead in providing bipartisan oversight in the Senate to promote the Accords and demanding that this administration deters aggression and demonstrates American strength. The first step towards achieving this is for the U.S. to enforce the law and seize more illicit Iranian oil, which continues to increase despite our sanctions.

As we mark three years of the Abraham Accords, we must not allow this historic agreement to be undermined. The Biden administration’s attempt to appease Tehran and pursue a flawed nuclear agreement would result in the rollback of crucial sanctions that must be enforced, further endangering the region and putting more U.S. resources and assets at risk.

We have witnessed increased stability in the region as a result of the unprecedented partnerships forged and supported by the Abraham Accords. The Biden administration must ensure that this progress does not unravel.

If the Abraham Accords serve as a shield, our enforcement of sanctions must be a sword.
