Beyoncé’s Actions Suggest Disapproval Towards Lizzo Amid Dancer Lawsuit

During her concert in Foxborough, Massachusetts, Beyoncé made a subtle move that seemed to be a diss towards Lizzo in the midst of a controversy surrounding Lizzo’s treatment of dancers. The remix version of Beyoncé’s hit song “Break My Soul” usually includes a verse where she shouts out several Black women in the entertainment industry, such as Lauryn Hill, Kelly Rowland, Erykah Badu, and Lizzo. However, at the concert, Beyoncé noticeably skipped over Lizzo’s name and instead repeated Badu’s name four times, even though Lizzo’s name appeared on the screen along with the other musicians mentioned in the song.

Many speculated that Beyoncé intentionally dropped Lizzo’s name due to the recent lawsuit filed against Lizzo by former dancers. These dancers accused Lizzo of weight-shaming, sexual, religious, and racial harassment, as well as creating a toxic work environment. This lawsuit came as a surprise to many fans and supporters of Lizzo, who has been known for preaching body positivity throughout her career.

Others suggested that the lyric change was a deliberate reference to a recent controversy involving Erykah Badu, where she accused Beyoncé of copying her style. While Beyoncé has not publicly addressed these speculations, her mother, Tina Knowles, commented on a post about the performance, implying that the speculation was unfounded. Knowles pointed out that Beyoncé also skipped over Kelly Rowland’s name, emphasizing that Beyoncé and Rowland share a very close relationship despite not being blood-related.

Beyoncé’s representatives did not provide a comment when HuffPost reached out for clarification.
