One of the fake websites lured customers in with a social media post promoting a sofa for £4.99 and discounts of up to 90%, even though Wilko does not sell sofas. Wilko has warned that emails confirming orders from these fake sites are likely to be bogus. Administrators have stated that the only genuine Wilko website is www.wilko.com and are collaborating with the relevant authorities to have the fake sites removed. Scam websites often employ stolen images to appear legitimate and may accept orders and payments but fail to deliver the promised goods. Action Fraud, the UK’s national reporting centre for fraud and cybercrime, advises potential buyers to conduct thorough research and read online reviews before making a purchase from a new website. It is also recommended to report scam websites via a dedicated reporting service.
