Ateneo coach aspires to shape well-respected professionals beyond the realm of basketball

In a thrilling game against the Japan U-21 team, Josh Lazaro (No. 16) secured a crucial point in the last 52.1 seconds, leading to a close 70-69 victory. This impressive performance by Lazaro highlights the skill and determination of Ateneo’s basketball team in the WORLD UNIVERSITY BASKETBALL SERIES.

Coach Tab Baldwin is transparent about his goal to develop championship teams at Ateneo and prepare his players for successful professional careers. He believes that universities play a crucial role in shaping and molding professionals. After the win against the Japanese team, Baldwin expressed his satisfaction with the results achieved by his young players.

Baldwin takes pride in the accomplishments of his graduates, particularly BJ Andrade and Ange Kouame. He focuses on improving their skills to maximize their effectiveness on the court. He acknowledges their dedication in self-improvement and commends their commitment to reaching their full potential.

Kouame is currently participating in Gilas Pilipinas preparations for the World Cup and the Asian Games. Depending on the availability of other naturalized players like Jordan Clarkson and Justin Brownlee, Kouame could be selected to represent the team. Baldwin emphasizes that Kouame has been prepared to excel in European basketball, and with further improvement, he could have a successful career there.

Andrade, on the other hand, is in the process of recovering from an ACL tear. Despite his injury, he remains focused on regaining his strength and shape to potentially apply for the PBA Draft next month. Baldwin praises Andrade’s versatility and ability to elevate the performance of his teammates, highlighting his status as a winner. He believes that Andrade will be highly regarded by PBA coaches.

Baldwin’s current batch of Blue Eagles is filled with promising talent, and he continues to be impressed by their hard work. Despite the loss of Forthsky Padrigao due to academic and personal issues, Baldwin remains confident in the team’s strength. With players like Kai Ballungay, Geo Chiu, and Joseph Obasa forming a formidable trio alongside other talented individuals, Ateneo is favored to perform well in UAAP Season 86.

Although Baldwin acknowledges that there are challenging opponents in the league, he emphasizes the importance of continued hard work in pursuit of another championship.

In conclusion, the Ateneo basketball team, led by Coach Tab Baldwin, strives for excellence on and off the court. Their focus on developing professional skills and preparing for successful careers sets them apart in the realm of university basketball. With a talented roster and a strong work ethic, they are poised to achieve great success in future competitions.
