At Least 15 Dead and Multiple Injured in Fatal Highway Collision in Central Canada

In a tragic incident in central Canada, a highway collision has claimed the lives of at least 15 individuals and left several others injured early on Thursday morning.

The Manitoba Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) stated in a press release that just before noon, a semi-trailer collided with a bus carrying “a number of senior citizens” from Dauphin. At least 10 injured individuals were transported to the hospital for treatment.

According to RCMP’s commanding officer, Rob Hill, there were a total of 25 people on the bus. He expressed, “Sadly, this is a day in Manitoba and across Canada that will be remembered as one of tragedy and incredible sadness.”

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police Major Crime Services is currently investigating the collision and has been present at the scene on Thursday, as mentioned in the release.

The press release further stated, “Immediately, it became apparent that this was a mass casualty situation and the RCMP deployed all available resources to the area which included, RCMP officers from across western Manitoba, Forensic Identification Services, and a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist.”

RCMP Superintendent Rob Lasson revealed that “as of right now the drivers of both the bus and truck are alive and in the hospital,” according to the Associated Press article. However, it has not been confirmed whether they are among the injured.

The truck company, Day & Ross, has committed to fully cooperating with the investigation and providing any required assistance and support, as mentioned by CEO William Doherty in a statement.

This particular incident is one of the deadliest in recent Canadian history.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed his heartfelt condolences in a tweet, saying, “The news from Carberry, Manitoba is incredibly tragic. I’m sending my deepest condolences to those who lost loved ones today, and I’m keeping the injured in my thoughts.” He added, “I cannot imagine the pain those affected are feeling – but Canadians are here for you.”
