Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis Respond to Criticism for Sending Letters in Danny Masterson Case

Acting couple Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis recently addressed criticism they received for sending letters of support to the Los Angeles judge overseeing the Danny Masterson rape case. They took to social media to share their thoughts.

Last week, Masterson was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison after being found guilty of raping two women. Kutcher, Kunis, and Masterson were co-stars on “That ’70s Show” and later worked together on the Netflix series “The Ranch.”

In a video on Instagram, Kutcher explained that Masterson’s family had asked them to write character letters. They were meant to represent the person they knew for 25 years, to be considered during sentencing. However, Kutcher and Kunis acknowledged the pain caused by their letters.

Along with nearly 50 others, Kutcher and Kunis wrote letters asking for leniency in Masterson’s sentencing. Kutcher called Masterson a role model and spoke highly of his character. Kunis vouched for Masterson’s exceptional character as well.

Despite these character references, Masterson received the maximum sentence. In their message, Kutcher and Kunis clarified that their intention was not to discount the experiences of Masterson’s victims. Their letters were meant for the judge and not to undermine the victims’ testimony.

Kunis concluded the video by expressing support for all victims of sexual assault, abuse, and rape.
