On Tuesday, Capitol Hill’s Union Station was the site of a dramatic arrest. Capitol Police took a man into custody after he was spotted carrying a “long gun” in a park across from the station. When officers ordered him to drop the weapon, he refused, resulting in police tasering him. NBC News reported that the suspect was in possession of an “AR-15.”
Amidst the chaos, officers evacuated the park to investigate a suspicious backpack the suspect was carrying. The incident caused a stir, with police seen streaming toward the Capitol, near several Senate office buildings. Despite the commotion, police assured the public that there was no ongoing threat.
Adding to the intrigue, authorities are unsure of how the suspect arrived at the park and have shut down Columbus Circle and D Street for further investigation.
