Arizona State University has taken the initiative to self-impose a one-year bowl ban while the NCAA investigates potential infractions that occurred under former football coach Herm Edwards.

The ban, announced on Sunday, is a proactive measure as the NCAA explores allegations of recruiting violations by the Sun Devils during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since 2021, the NCAA has been conducting an investigation into the program, specifically examining claims that Arizona State hosted recruits despite the NCAA-imposed ban on in-person recruiting known as the ‘dead period’.

Due to COVID-19, the NCAA temporarily halted official visits and recruiting trips for over a year in all sports.

The investigation into Arizona State was triggered by a dossier of documents submitted to the NCAA on May 31, 2021, which detailed the alleged violations.
