  • In a touching tribute, Mac Miller, who passed away unexpectedly in 2018, can be seen in the corner of the photo.

Ariana Grande commemorates her 10-year journey in the music industry by releasing a deluxe edition of her debut album, “Yours Truly,” while also paying homage to her dear friend and collaborator, Mac Miller.

Grande released the deluxe edition on Friday, featuring new live recordings of selected tracks.

The cover showcases a blurry photo of the teenage pop star, captured during the filming of the music video for “The Way.”

“The Way” served as the lead single for “Yours Truly” in March 2013 and marked Grande’s first collaboration with Miller. The album cover includes a glimpse of Miller, with his sweater and a small part of his smile visible in the top-left corner.

“Everybody on the record is a very close friend of mine. Mac Miller came about because I heard ‘The Way’ and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh. This song is amazing. Malcolm, will you come be on this record with me?’ and he was like, ‘Absolutely,'” Grande revealed in an interview with Rolling Stone when the album was released.

“I went over to his house. I engineered the session,” she continued. “I recorded him rapping while I was simultaneously baking cookies for him, and that was that.”

Over the years, Grande and Miller developed a romantic relationship. They collaborated on another duet, “My Favorite Part,” for Miller’s 2016 album “The Divine Feminine.” Grande even inspired his love song “Cinderella.”

However, their relationship came to an end in 2018 after two years together. Tragically, Miller passed away that same year due to an accidental overdose at the age of 26.

Grande publicly expressed her grief, breaking off her engagement with Pete Davidson and going through a period of intense emotions. She channeled this experience into her album “Thank U, Next,” which includes several songs referencing Miller.

In a 2019 interview with Vogue, Grande described her grief as “pretty all-consuming.”

“By no means was what we had perfect, but, like, fuck. He was the best person ever, and he didn’t deserve the demons he had,” she said. “I was the glue for such a long time, and I found myself becoming… less and less sticky. The pieces just started to float away.”
