Amy Duggar King believes that Josh intentionally chose his sisters as victims because he knew they would keep the abuse a secret. She pointed out that their strict upbringing in the Institute of Basic Life Principles (IBLP), which emphasizes male authority over women, may have contributed to the cover-up. Unlike her cousins, Amy did not follow this lifestyle and expressed her belief that the preferential treatment of Josh as the first-born son allowed him to believe he could evade the consequences of his actions. “He thought he could get away with anything,” she concluded.
