Adam Rich, the beloved child actor with his iconic pageboy mop-top, has passed away at the age of 54. Lt. Aimee Earl of the Los Angeles County Medical-Examiner Coroner’s office confirmed his death, which occurred at his home in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles. The cause of death is under investigation but is not suspected to be suspicious. Rich rose to fame at the age of 8 for his role as Nicholas Bradford, the youngest of eight children, on the popular ABC show Eight is Enough, which aired from 1977 to 1981.

Actress Betty Buckley, who played Rich’s stepmother on the show, expressed her shock and grief on Instagram, referring to Rich as a “light” and her “young pal” on set. Buckley shared heartfelt photos of their time together, including moments on a swing set, on horseback, and with her arm around him while he slept. She described him as sweet, funny, fresh, and natural, bringing joy to the entire cast and audience.

Rich’s life after stardom was plagued by the common narrative of child actors facing struggles with drugs, alcohol, and legal issues. However, he announced on Twitter in October that he had remained sober for seven years. Rich also battled a type of depression that was resistant to treatment, striving to break the stigma surrounding mental illness. Despite trying various experimental cures over the years, he was known for his kindness, generosity, and lack of ego.
