In Paris, it’s uncommon to see people wearing athleisure in public, which is a striking contrast to my experience in the US.
The residents of the French capital prioritize their appearances, even for quick trips to the grocery store, dressing just a step above what I would consider casual in the US.
I often see tailored trousers paired with plain sweaters and scarves. People also elevate their jeans with loafers or crisp white sneakers along with tailored jackets.
In the US, I used to have three distinct fashion modes: going-out clothes (crop tops, jeans, and heels), athleisure (leggings, colored sneakers, and tank tops), and office attire (slacks, loafers, and silky blouses). On any given Saturday, I would either be dressed for a night at the bars or for hitting the gym. There was no middle ground.
Living here has enhanced my sense of style and instilled a sense of pride in my personal presentation to the world.
My new wardrobe consists of smart and simple pieces that are suitable for both day and night. I have developed a sort of uniform, incorporating trousers, jeans, white sneakers, silk maxi skirts, plain T-shirts, tailored jackets, and a variety of black pieces.
Dressing up has become easier with a capsule wardrobe – I feel prepared for any occasion when I step out of the house.
