AI System Identifies Chinese Products Allegedly Connected to Uyghur Forced Labor: More Than Just Coincidence, It’s a Deliberate Strategy

Tech firm Ultra has developed an AI-powered tool called Publican that it believes can help analysts identify products on the platform Temu that may have been created using forced labor from the Uyghur population in China. Ultra’s founder and CEO, Ram Ben Tzion, expressed concerns about the potential for illicit goods to enter the country through this platform and emphasized the need for accountability. Publican analyzes shipping data and identifies patterns and red flags for potential fraud issues. Ultra found that products on Temu had non-indicative names and untraceable company information. Ben Tzion theorized that Temu could be an attempt to bypass the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act.
