HANGZHOU, China—Agatha Wong, a talented wushu athlete, has successfully managed to balance her rigorous medical school schedule with intense training sessions.

Despite the challenges that come with juggling both commitments, Wong is determined to bring home a medal from the 19th Asian Games.

As the country’s top performer in taolu, Wong is eagerly preparing to showcase her skills at the Xiaoshan Guali Sports Centre in Hangzhou, China, where the wushu competition will take place on Sunday.

“Training while studying has been tough. You have to balance everything,” said Wong, a freshman at UERM Memorial Medical Center. She aims to improve upon her bronze medal performance in the 2018 Jakarta Games.

Wong, who excelled in the taijiquan and taijijian disciplines during the Southeast Asian Games, is entered in the women’s all-around event for both categories.

“Once again, I will give my best during the competition. We’ll see what happens,” Wong shared.

Previously, Wong won gold medals in taijiquan and taijijian at the SEA Games. However, the wushu federation recently decided to merge both events starting from the Cambodia SEA Games earlier this year.

One of Wong’s most remarkable achievements was winning a silver medal in taijiquan at the 2015 World Wushu Championships in Jakarta.
