Uninsured Americans can now receive the latest Covid vaccines for free at specific locations throughout the country, following the recent approval from U.S. regulators.

Pfizer and Moderna’s updated shots are now available to all Americans aged 6 months and above, as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention last Tuesday.

Patients can use the federal government’s search tool, Vaccines.gov, to find locations offering appointments for the new vaccines. The website also provides a filter for uninsured individuals, highlighting CVS and Walgreens pharmacies among others, where the vaccines are available at no cost.

These locations are part of the Biden administration’s Bridge Access Program, offering free Covid vaccines and treatments to uninsured people until December 2024.

The Bridge Access Program is designed to ensure widespread access to Covid products after a shift in how the U.S. provides coverage. Previously, the federal government purchased vaccines directly from manufacturers to distribute them for free. However, with the expiration of the U.S. Covid public health emergency, shots are now being sold to healthcare providers at over $120 per dose.

While most Americans can obtain the new vaccines at no cost through private insurance or government payers, the Bridge Access Program aims to cater to the estimated 30 million uninsured Americans.

How to Find Appointments as an Uninsured Individual

By clicking on “Find Covid-19 vaccines” on Vaccines.gov, patients can access the search tool. They need to enter their five-digit zip code, select the desired vaccine brands, and indicate their age group.
