A South LA Man Arrested for Alleged Pimping of Teenager on This Day Last Year (August 31, 2022)

On this day, one year ago (August 31, 2022), a man from South Los Angeles was apprehended on a five-count federal indictment. The charges alleged that he recruited a 15-year-old girl, acted as her pimp, and promoted her for sexual services on the internet.

The accused, Donavin Bradford, who is 31 years old, pleaded not guilty to the following charges: one count of conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of a minor, one count of sex trafficking of a minor, two counts of sexual exploitation of a child for the purpose of producing explicit visual depiction, and one count of possession of child pornography. The U.S. Attorney’s Office provided this information.

During Bradford’s arraignment in downtown Los Angeles, he was ordered to be held without bail, and a trial date of October 25 was set.

Prosecutors claim that Bradford expected the girl to earn him $1,000 per night, and as compensation, he provided her with clothing and accommodation, as stated in the indictment.

Bradford and his co-defendant, Layla Valdivia, who is 23 years old, allegedly advertised the girl for commercial sex work on various websites. Customers who responded to the ads were instructed to meet at different hotels and motels, where they engaged in sexual acts with the victim.

According to the indictment, on some occasions, the underage victim was compelled to perform sexual acts with Valdivia and a client together.

Customers purportedly paid Bradford for appointments with the victim, or she was obliged to give a portion of her earnings to either Bradford or Valdivia.

The indictment further claims that Bradford assaulted the victim on two separate occasions when she attempted to cease working for him. Additionally, Bradford allegedly recorded himself engaging in sexual acts with the victim.

Valdivia, who is from Ventura and is also in federal custody, entered a plea of not guilty on August 22. She faces one count of conspiracy and one count of sex trafficking of a minor. Her trial is scheduled for October 18.

If found guilty of all charges, Bradford could be sentenced to a mandatory minimum of 15 years in federal prison, while Valdivia could face a mandatory minimum of 10 years. Both defendants could potentially receive life imprisonment as maximum sentences, as highlighted by the prosecutors.
