Do you dream of experiencing the enchantment of Hogwarts during the fall and winter months?
If so, TikTokers have come up with a solution.
On the popular social media platform, “Harry Potter” fans have been using DIY decorations to recreate the thunderclouds and floating candles seen in the film franchise.
This trend is particularly fitting for Halloween.
A search for “Harry Potter ceiling” on TikTok yields numerous videos with a combined total of 52.7 million views as of Wednesday.
Many of these videos feature individuals who have attempted to create the decoration, such as Gatane Muslimani.
Muslimani, a 36-year-old “Harry Potter” fan from Sterling, Virginia, reveals that she began planning her “Harry Potter” ceiling last winter and finally brought her vision to life for Halloween this year.
She explains, “‘Harry Potter’ was the first book series I read over 20 years ago, and it ignited my love for reading. It holds a special place in my heart. I’m currently reading the books with my sons, and we watch the movie series every year from the end of October until Christmas.”
To create her “Harry Potter” ceiling, Muslimani purchased small items from Amazon and installed them above her kitchen island.
While there are various methods to create this decoration, as showcased on TikTok, Muslimani advises that you only need a few essential items: LED strip lights, loop ties, Poly-fil, spray adhesive, poster board, and a means to attach the decoration to the ceiling.
She adds, “I used duct tape, but that’s because I was too impatient to get anything else and I already had it. Command Strips or tacks would probably work best.”
And, of course, you’ll need ready-made “floating” candles, which are widely available from retailers like Amazon and Party City.
Muslimani has shared a more detailed tutorial on her TikTok page for those interested in creating this craft.
“My biggest tip would be to not overthink it,” she advises. “You can make the clouds as fluffy or dense as you want. There’s no right or wrong way to arrange the lights or place the candles. You can assemble it separately and then hang it up, or you can put it together directly on the ceiling. Do whatever works best for you!”
