QUSRA, West Bank — On Friday, the Palestinian Ministry of Health reported that at least 11 Palestinians were killed and dozens injured by Israeli security forces across the West Bank. The violence comes amid rising fears of an imminent Israeli land invasion of Gaza. Palestinians in the West Bank have shown solidarity with Gaza by raising Hamas flags, despite political divisions between Hamas and the Fatah party. The news of the Israeli military ordering 1.1 million Gazans to evacuate has fueled concerns of another mass displacement among Palestinians. In the West Bank, four Palestinians were shot dead during clashes with Israeli security forces, and a 14-year-old was killed near a military checkpoint. Since Saturday, at least 43 Palestinians in the West Bank have been killed by Israeli forces and settlers. The focus now shifts to Gaza, where more than 1,700 Palestinians have been killed and hundreds of thousands displaced. The West Bank, which was previously considered Israel’s main security challenge, has seen a rise in violence due to the collapse of the peace process, Israeli occupation, and leadership issues within the Palestinian Authority. There has been a surge in militant groups in the region. The violence in the West Bank has escalated alongside Israel’s war in Gaza, with settler violence against Palestinians increasing. On Wednesday, armed settlers shot dead three Palestinians from the same family outside their home near Qusra. The incident occurred as the bodies were being transported, and settlers arrived and began throwing rocks. In the confrontation that followed, two more Palestinian men were shot dead by settlers. Qusra has long been targeted by settlers but has also welcomed anti-occupation activists. The Palestinian Authority, which is unpopular among Palestinians and perceived as an Israeli security contractor, has been largely absent during the ongoing war. Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh accused Israel of committing genocide against the people of Gaza, while Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas called for an end to Israeli aggression and warned of a second catastrophe for Palestinians if forced evacuations from Gaza occur. In Ramallah, clashes between young Palestinians and Israeli security forces took place, with protesters demanding an end to the occupation and the Palestinian Authority’s existence.
