Jada Pinkett Smith Exposes Chris Rock’s Post-Oscars Slap Remark – Catch the Buzz Nationally

Jada Pinkett Smith has shared the details of what transpired between her and Chris Rock following her husband, Will Smith’s, infamous slap at the 2022 Oscars. The incident, commonly referred to as “the slap heard around the world,” occurred after Rock made a comment about Pinkett Smith’s struggles with alopecia and hair loss during the ceremony. Outraged by the joke, Smith walked up to the stage and delivered an open-palm slap to Rock’s face, before returning to his seat and vehemently defending his wife.

In an upcoming interview with Hoda Kotb on NBC’s Today show, Pinkett Smith revealed that she briefly spoke with Rock immediately after the incident while snippets of the best documentary nominees were being showcased. She recalled Rock saying, “Jada, I meant no harm.” However, she was preoccupied with her concern for Will’s well-being and was caught off guard when he became upset that Rock was talking to her. Pinkett Smith responded, “Chris, this is about some old stuff. That’s all I could think of saying. And I couldn’t really process his apology.”

Recent revelations have shed light on the fact that Pinkett Smith and Rock have a history together. In an interview with People, Pinkett Smith disclosed that Rock had asked her out on a date during a time when rumors were circulating about her and Will’s impending divorce. She clarified that the rumors were false and that Rock was appalled by the misunderstanding, promptly apologizing for his assumption.

Will Smith, in a subsequent interview after the 2022 Oscars, explained that there were numerous underlying factors that contributed to his decision to slap Rock. However, he ultimately stated, “But at the end of the day, I just—I lost it.”

Despite still being technically married, Pinkett Smith revealed in the interview with Kotb that she and Smith are no longer romantically involved. While they have not gone through a legal divorce, they have been separated since 2016, maintaining the appearance of a committed partnership in public. Pinkett Smith acknowledged that by the time 2016 arrived, they were both exhausted from trying to salvage their relationship and were fixated on unrealistic expectations for one another.

When Smith defended her honor by telling Rock to refrain from mentioning his “wife’s name” after the slap incident, Pinkett Smith admitted feeling shocked. She stated, “We haven’t referred to each other as husband and wife in a long time. I couldn’t comprehend what was happening.”

Following the incident, Smith went on to win the Best Actor award for his role in “King Richard” but has been banned from the Academy Awards for ten years. Kotb observed that Smith’s behavior that night seemed completely out of character, to which Pinkett Smith agreed and replied, “It’s not him whatsoever.”
