Knife attack in Dublin leaves five injured including three children, Police say it’s not terror-related
A knife attack in Dublin city left five people wounded, including three young children, in an incident that police are confident is not terror-related and appears to be a standalone attack. The assault occurred near Dublin’s main thoroughfare of O’Connell Street.

An emergency treatment was provided to a five-year-old girl who sustained serious injuries, along with a man in his 50s who is also receiving serious care and has been detained by police. Fortunately, the man did not cause further harm, as the police confirmed they are not seeking any other suspects.

According to law enforcement reports, the assailant attacked multiple people at Parnell Square before members of the public intervened and subverted his actions. “It would appear to be a standalone attack, and we need to determine the reasons behind that,” said police superintendent Liam Geraghty as he addressed the media near the scene.

A woman in her 30s was also being treated for serious injuries, and two other children, a five-year-old boy and six-year-old girl, sustained less severe injuries. The boy has already been discharged from the hospital. The location of the incident near a school raised concerns, but the police assured the public that it was not a deliberate attack on the educational institution.

As authorities continued their investigation, a confrontation emerged when around 50 anti-immigrant protesters briefly breached the security barriers and caused chaos. Riot police responded to the situation, ensuring stability and order, despite difficulties in confirming specific details about the detained man.

An eyewitness, Anthony Boyle, recounted the chaotic scene, describing the distressing sight of a young girl on the ground and the emotional turmoil that ensued. “There was complete and utter pandemonium, women wailing, men screaming and crying,” Boyle told Reuters.

Responding to the incident, Prime Minister Leo Varadkar conveyed his shock and concern, emphasizing the need for solidarity and support in the aftermath of the attack.
