A tragic incident occurred in Fallbrook, where a 3-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his 1-year-old sibling with an unsecured handgun. The county Sheriff’s Department reported that the shooting took place at a home on Stagecoach Lane near Reche Road at approximately 7:30 a.m.
According to Lt. Joseph Jarjura, the person who made the 911 call was believed to be a parent of the children involved. The whereabouts of the children’s parents at the time of the incident have not been determined yet.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered the 1-year-old girl with a fatal head injury resulting from a single gunshot. She was rushed to Palomar Hospital but tragically passed away an hour later. The identity of the fatally injured child has not been disclosed by the Sheriff’s Department.
The Homicide Unit of the department is currently conducting an investigation to gather more information about the incident. No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting at this time, as stated by Lt. Jarjura.
Fallbrook, located near Camp Pendleton in northern San Diego County, is now grieving this devastating loss.
