Tips for Traveling During Train Strikes

  • Use the Journey Planner tool provided by National Rail and check for updates close to each strike date.
  • Refer to the Live Trains page for real-time information on arrivals and departures.
  • Plan ahead and check their entire journey, especially if they are traveling on the first and last trains of strike days.

Train Station Ticket Office Closures

The Rail Delivery Group (RDG) has announced the closure of almost all railway station ticket offices, with staff being reassigned to platform and concourse duties. Ticket office services will only remain available at the busiest stations.

Posters will be displayed at the stations to inform passengers about the closures. The final decision on which offices will be closed will be made by the Government after a consultation. The closure process is expected to run for a duration of three years.

Reasons for Aslef Strikes

The members of Aslef are engaging in strikes to demand a pay increase. They have criticized the government for failing to engage with their negotiating team, consisting of general secretary Mick Whelan, assistant general secretary Simon Weller, and executive committee president Dave Calfe.

According to Mr. Whelan, the Secretary of State for Transport and the Rail Minister have not been in contact with them since December and January respectively. The lack of communication from the train companies has also been noted by the union. This absence of dialogue has prompted their industrial action.
