  • A 14-year-old girl went missing on June 9 and was later discovered by military police in the barracks at Camp Pendleton.
  • A human trafficking task force and military authorities are now conducting an investigation into the case.
  • An active-duty Marine has been taken into custody, according to reports.

A 14-year-old girl, who reportedly has a learning disability, went missing for a period of two weeks before being discovered by military police at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base. This information was confirmed by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

An active-duty Marine from Combat Logistics Battalion 5 has been taken into custody by military authorities. The incident is currently being investigated by San Diego’s human trafficking task force as well as the Naval Criminal Investigative Services.

The criminal charges against the Marine and their current custody status are unclear at this time. No statement has been provided by military representatives to Insider.

The girl’s aunt, Casaundra Perez, brought attention to the situation through a TikTok video. She alleges that her niece was raped at the military barracks in Camp Pendleton and accuses the facility of covering it up and trying to shift blame onto the victim.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department stated that the girl ran away from her grandmother’s home in Spring Valley on June 9 and was reported missing on June 13. The grandmother delayed contacting the police because the girl had previously run away but always returned home quickly.

The authorities entered the girl’s information into various missing persons databases and initiated an investigation into her disappearance. On June 28, the military police at Camp Pendleton located her and she was returned to her grandmother.
