1 Million Amazon Employees to Receive Reproductive Care Benefits

Amazon and Maven teaming up, will provide fertility benefits in 50 countries

Amazon, the second-largest employer in the United States, has partnered with Maven Clinic to offer fertility and family planning services to its employees. This free service will be available to over 1 million eligible Amazon employees in 50 countries outside of the U.S. and Canada.

Through this partnership, Amazon employees and their partners in select countries will have access to a range of services provided by Maven, including board-certified reproductive endocrinologists, OB-GYNs, nutritionists, and mental healthcare providers.

Maven, which has already cared for over 15 million patients as of May 2023, will see a 7% increase in its patient numbers with the addition of Amazon to its partnership portfolio.

Maven’s mission is to make reproductive healthcare more accessible, addressing the fact that only half of U.S. counties have access to an OB-GYN. As a groundbreaking female-focused health startup valued at over $1 billion, Maven has received substantial funding from prominent entities like CVS Health Ventures, Intermountain Health’s VC arm, and notable women such as Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling, Natalie Portman, and Reese Witherspoon.

Amazon joins other companies like Microsoft, AT&T, Snap, SoFi, and L’Oreal in partnering with Maven.

The challenges surrounding reproductive healthcare in the U.S. have fueled corporate interest in partnerships with Maven. The U.S. has the highest maternal mortality rate among industrialized countries, further emphasizing the need for improved reproductive health services.

Maven Clinic experienced a 67% month-over-month increase in companies seeking healthcare opportunities for their pregnant employees and travel benefits following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in June 2022. A Maven survey revealed that 71% of companies are considering or have already added reproductive health benefits in response to the decision.

Maven Clinic is not the only femtech company garnering attention in the field of women’s health technology. Kindbody, another CNBC Disruptor in 2023, offers fertility and family planning care to various companies, including Walmart. Progyny, founded by Gina Bartasi, who also founded Kindbody, went public in 2019. Expert estimates suggest that the femtech industry will be worth $1.186 trillion by 2027.

The partnership with Amazon allows Maven to expand its market reach and further demonstrate the benefits of prioritizing women and families not only for healthcare systems but also for companies worldwide, according to Maven Clinic CEO and founder Kate Ryder.

The demand for fertility benefits is increasing, both for heterosexual and same-sex couples. Approximately one in eight American couples struggles with conception, and 79% of LGBTQ+ employees would consider changing jobs for better family planning benefits.

Furthermore, offering fertility benefits can foster employee loyalty, with around two-thirds of recipients feeling more committed to the company, as reported by FertilityIQ’s 2019-2020 Family-Building Workplace Index.

“Having a company-provided resource that supports individuals on their reproductive health journey is a global need,” stated Lian Neeman, Amazon’s Director of Global Benefits.
