July 6 (UPI) — Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers — featuring Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist — will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on August 30th.
The film festival will run from August 30th to September 9th.
“Luca Guadagnino is known for his exceptional ability to work with both Italian and foreign actors and actresses, consistently achieving outstanding results,” said Alberto Barbera, the director of the Venice Film Festival, in a statement on Thursday.
“Even when working outside of Italy, such as with Challengers, Guadagnino fearlessly unleashes his creative energy, exploring themes of love, friendship, and male rivalry. The result is a captivating and emotionally engaging film that exudes irony, sensuality, and authenticity. It represents cinema in its purest form.”
The movie stars Zendaya as Tashi Duncan, a former tennis prodigy turned coach who finds herself entangled in a love triangle between her husband (Faist) and her ex-boyfriend (O’Connor).
The soundtrack of the film features music by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.
Guadagnino is renowned for his work on films such as Bones and All and Call Me by Your Name.
