YouTube Takes Down RFK Jr.’s Video for Sharing Inaccurate Vaccine Information

YouTube has taken down an interview featuring commentator Jordan Peterson and 2024 presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. due to its violation of guidelines against vaccine misinformation, the popular video-sharing platform announced on Monday.

A representative from YouTube stated, “We removed a video from the Jordan Peterson channel for violating YouTube’s general vaccine misinformation policy, which prohibits content that claims vaccines lead to chronic side effects, except in cases of rare side effects acknowledged by health authorities,” as reported by The Hill.

Starting his Democratic presidential campaign in April, Kennedy is currently competing against President Biden in the upcoming White House race. He is the nephew of former President Kennedy and the son of former Attorney General Robert Kennedy.

Both Kennedy and Peterson have expressed their disapproval of YouTube’s decision to remove the video, which was originally uploaded earlier this month and remains available on Twitter.

Kennedy took to Twitter and shared, “What do you think…Should social media platforms censor presidential candidates? My conversation with @JordanBPeterson was deleted by @YouTube,” while also expressing gratitude to platform owner Elon Musk. In subsequent tweets, Kennedy used the hashtag “#letRFKspeak.”

Peterson supported Kennedy’s post and accused YouTube of actively interfering with a presidential election campaign.

As per YouTube’s misinformation policy on vaccines, the platform prohibits content “that poses a serious risk of egregious harm by spreading medical misinformation about currently administered vaccines that are approved and confirmed to be safe and effective by local health authorities and by the World Health Organization (WHO).”

The video-sharing platform emphasizes that these guidelines apply to all content and creators, regardless of their political affiliation.

This incident is not the first time Kennedy has faced criticism for his claims about the potential negative effects of vaccines. Earlier this month, Kennedy had his Instagram account reinstated after it was suspended for sharing “debunked claims about the coronavirus or vaccines.”
