TREASURE, the popular boy group under YG Entertainment, is gearing up for the debut of their highly anticipated subunit called T5. Composed of members So Jung Hwan, Junkyu, Jihoon, Yoon Jae Hyuk, and Doyoung, T5 is set to make their mark in the K-pop industry next month.
The announcement of T5 was made through a video uploaded on TREASURE’s official YouTube channel by YG founder and executive producer, Yang Hyun Suk. In this video, Yang Hyun Suk revealed that the idea for the subunit came about when he asked the TREASURE members to raise their hand if they considered themselves the most handsome in the group.
After the announcement, the members of T5 were gradually unveiled, with So Jung Hwan being the first member revealed on June 12. Yang Hyun Suk also shared that T5 will debut ahead of TREASURE’s second full album, which is scheduled for release in August and will feature entirely new songs.
In an innovative twist, YG Entertainment plans to release a choreography video for T5 before the official music video, a strategy that has not been done before by the company. This unique promotion method aims to create excitement and anticipation for the subunit’s debut.
TREASURE debuted as a 12-member group in August 2020 with their hit single “Boy,” which was followed by successful releases like “I Love You,” “My Treasure,” and “Hello.” However, in November 2022, YG announced the departure of long-time trainees Bang Ye Dam and Mashiho from the group and the company.
