‘Yellowstone’ Star Kevin Costner and Ex-Wife Christine Baumgartner’s Divorce: Implications and Considerations

Christine Baumgartner initiated divorce proceedings against Kevin Costner in May after being married for 18 years. The divorce has been marked by legal battles over the division of assets acquired during their marriage. Prior to their marriage, Costner was previously married to Cindy Silva for 16 years, and Silva received an $80 million settlement following their divorce. As their bitter breakup continues, Costner recently filed a new request for Baumgartner to pay nearly $100,000 in attorney’s fees.

One of the major points of contention in their divorce is Baumgartner’s refusal to leave their multi-million dollar homes after they separated. Costner has been ordered to pay Baumgartner $129,755 per month in support, although she originally requested $248,000. A pre-marital agreement allegedly stated that Baumgartner would have to move out of the home within 30 days and not live in any of Costner’s properties if they divorced. Baumgartner refused to leave the residence, and a judge has ordered her to vacate the premise by July 31.

In his initial declaration, Costner claimed to have deposited $1 million into Baumgartner’s account as part of their pre-marital agreement. The agreement also stipulated that she receive a total of $200,000 upon marriage and after their first anniversary. Baumgartner responded by saying that she has not accepted the funds and requested that they be returned. She argued that Costner is not doing everything he can to ensure a smooth divorce for their children, as he attempted to evict them from the family home. Costner denies this allegation and states that the children will be in the home during his custody time.

When it comes to finances, Baumgartner submitted a report from a forensic accountant that shows Costner’s gross cash flow for the year as $24,518,887, or $2,043,241 per month. She originally requested $248,000 per month in child support but was awarded $129,755 per month according to a tentative ruling by the judge. Both Costner and Baumgartner will be responsible for 50% of their children’s healthcare expenses, sports, and extracurricular activities.

Costner made a new filing requesting that Baumgartner pays $99,225 in attorney’s fees and costs related to litigating the prenuptial agreement. His legal counsel, Laura Wasser, stated that invoices for July have not yet been prepared. The court hearing regarding Costner’s filing is set for August 2.
