Jelly Roll lit up the stage at the CMA Awards alongside a special guest! The 38-year-old kicked off the show with a breathtaking rendition of his chart-topping track, “Need a Favor,” and pleasantly surprised fans when Wynonna Judd made a mid-performance appearance.
The audience, which included power couple Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, as well as Kelsea Ballerini and Chase Stokes, joyfully sang, clapped, and danced as the two artists mesmerized the crowd with their on-stage collaboration.
Jelly Roll and Judd dazzled the audience with a harmonious performance, with the country music legend holding onto the singer’s arm throughout their act.
Before the ceremony, Jelly Roll, the most nominated male performer at the CMA Awards, shared with ET his excitement at opening the show, stating that “there’s no greater honor.”
He jokingly expressed his gratitude to the unknown person who suggested he open the show, saying, “I just want to kiss them on the mouth.”
He also hinted at a surprise guest, teasing, “I’ll have a special guest. I’m not telling nobody who it is.”
Jelly Roll will also close this year’s show as he teams up with K. Michelle to honor The Judds with “Love Can Build a Bridge” following the passing of Naomi Judd in April 2022.
On the red carpet, Jelly Roll revealed that he sought Wynonna’s approval before taking on the tribute, emphasizing his deep respect for the legendary figure in country music.
The 2023 CMA Awards, hosted by Luke Bryan and Peyton Manning, airs live on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. Check here for the full list of the night’s big winners!
