WWE Wrestling Legend, The Iron Sheik, Passes Away at the Age of 81

The iconic American-Iranian professional wrestler, The Iron Sheik, passed away at the age of 81. Hossein Khosrow Ali Vaziri, as he was known in real life, was an Olympic wrestler for Iran before his debut in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in 1979. Vaziri was infamous for his anti-American persona and rhetoric, which he portrayed as an anti-American heel for the WWF. Together with Nikolai Volkoff, his tag team partner, they won the WWF World Tag Team Championship in 1985 at the first WrestleMania. Later, he teamed up with Sgt. Slaughter as Colonel Mustafa.

Besides his in-ring prowess, Vaziri was a “devoted family man,” leaving behind his wife of 47 years, Caryl, his children, grandchildren, and son-in-law Eddie, who brought “immeasurable joy into his life.” Vaziri’s influence extended beyond wrestling to pop culture, with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson crediting him for the term “jabroni” being famous in wrestling circles.

The cause of Vaziri’s death is not yet known. His death was confirmed by a representative, who shared the news via his Twitter account. Tributes have already poured in for the wrestling legend, including from WWE, who expressed condolences to his family, friends, and fans. Vaziri’s legacy will endure for generations to come.
