Writers of ‘And Just Like That’ Discuss the Aidan Storyline

Fans of Max’s highly-anticipated “Sex and the City” revival series, “And Just Like That…,” are in for a delightful surprise when it comes to the future storyline of Aidan Shaw, played by the talented John Corbett.

During Thursday’s episode of the “And Just Like That… The Writers Room” podcast, the show’s executive producer and writer/director Michael Patrick King engaged in a discussion about the series’ latest episode with writers Julie Rottenberg, Elisa Zuritsky, and Samantha Irby. Rottenberg and Zuritsky also serve as executive producers, while Irby is a supervising producer.

The writers delved into Aidan Shaw’s highly-anticipated comeback and his reunion with his ex-girlfriend Carrie Bradshaw, brought to life by the remarkable Sarah Jessica Parker. Corbett’s character first appeared in Season 2, Episode 7, titled “February 14th,” which premiered on Thursday.

“When we bring someone back, we have to find a fresh way to reintroduce them,” King stated when discussing the decision to bring Corbett back. “So here we are, bringing Aidan back again, and we have some exciting surprises in store for how he has evolved and where we can take his storyline.”

King further elaborated that the show would delve deeper into Aidan’s life, with the latest episode merely being the tip of the iceberg in terms of what’s to come.

“Before you fully understand something, you must create the foundation, the iceberg,” he explained. “So beneath all of this, we have carefully layered a multitude of captivating story elements.”

The series had previously teased Aidan’s return in Episode 6 when Carrie reached out to him via email. This brought back memories of their engagement in the original “Sex and the City” series, and their brief reconnection in “Sex and the City 2” movie. (It’s worth noting that TV and film writers and actors, including those involved in “And Just Like That,” are currently on strike due to issues of fair pay and working conditions in the streaming era.)

In February, Corbett and Parker were spotted filming scenes in New York City for “And Just Like That…” The show had playfully teased Aidan’s return on its official Instagram account by sharing a slideshow of photos showing Parker and Corbett embracing on set, with the caption “And just like that Carrie is back on her tip toes.”
