Woman successfully avoids fake Uber driver with the help of a note

According to police, a woman in Arizona successfully saved herself from an abduction by a fake Uber driver by passing a note to a customer at a gas station. This incident was reported by USA Today. The woman’s ordeal began when she entered a vehicle driven by a man pretending to be a ride-share driver at a car dealership in the Phoenix area. The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office stated that the driver restrained the woman and took her to Lake Mead Park in Las Vegas, where they spent the night. CBS News confirms that on Tuesday around 5pm, the woman managed to discreetly pass a note to a customer at a gas station in Seligman.

The note read: “Help, (redacted) call 911. Blue Honda van. (redacted) Going to Kingman and Las Vegas.” Authorities quickly stopped the vehicle and apprehended 41-year-old Jacob Wilhoit without any trouble. He now faces charges of harassment, aggravated assault, unlawful imprisonment, and kidnapping, as stated in a Facebook post by the police. The investigation revealed that Wilhoit had disguised himself with a wig and deduced that the woman had requested an Uber driver.

According to the Washington Post, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kristin Green claimed that this was a targeted kidnapping. The woman’s identity and further details about the case, including the relationship between the two individuals involved, have not been disclosed by investigators. Green mentioned that the woman was deeply traumatized but made it clear that she was taken against her will and not consensually. Additionally, police found several firearms in Wilhoit’s vehicle.
