Woman Plunges from 10th Deck of Cruise Ship

A remarkable incident occurred on Sunday when a woman fell from the 10th deck of a Royal Caribbean cruise ship. The story, however, ended with a surprisingly happy outcome. Thankfully, the 42-year-old US citizen was successfully rescued from the water and, according to the Coast Guard, was found to be in good health. No medical evaluation was deemed necessary by the cruise ship. The incident took place near the Dominican Republic, approximately 27 nautical miles south of Punta Cana, as reported by NBC News. The passenger was initially kept in the cruise ship’s medical facility and later transferred to the Hospital in Willemstad, Curacao for evaluation.

Royal Caribbean has released its own statement, announcing that its Care team is providing assistance and support to the passenger and their travel companions. The details surrounding how the woman went overboard remain unclear, and the cruise line has decided not to disclose further information. The incident is currently under investigation by the Coast Guard. Witnesses who spoke to Insider share that it took approximately 45 minutes for cruise crew members to rescue the woman and bring her back on board the ship. Passengers who had been observing the rescue from their balconies showed their relief by applauding, as described by a witness on Fox 35. In the period between 2009 and 2019, out of 212 overboard incidents on cruise ships, only 28.2% of the victims were successfully rescued. (Read more Royal Caribbean stories.)
