Witness the Warriors’ Revealing Video Review of their Loss to Suns, Unveiling a Promising Work-in-Progress Team – NBC Sports Bay Area & California

SAN FRANCISCO – Warriors Analyze Season-Opening Loss to Phoenix Suns

After taking a day to regroup, the Warriors gathered for video review of their season-opening defeat to the Phoenix Suns. This session was immediately followed by a light practice. They identified several factors contributing to the loss, including poor shooting, foul trouble for Stephen Curry and Jonathan Kuminga, Andrew Wiggins’ lack of impact, and defensive deficiencies.

Coach Steve Kerr stated that missed shots often reveal a multitude of issues. He emphasized the importance of closely examining the game and watching the film. While there were possessions that required better spacing, there were also instances where the Warriors simply missed their shots.

In the first half alone, the Warriors missed 13 shots at the rim and five more within 10 feet. If this trend continues, they may have to start preparing for an early offseason.

Dario Sarić, who shot 3-of-11, acknowledged the team’s missed layups and expressed his desire to improve in that area.

In addition to their poor shooting, the Warriors also committed unnecessary fouls and neglected rebounding fundamentals, particularly in the fourth quarter when they squandered their lead.

According to Kerr, the two biggest factors in the Suns’ comeback and eventual victory were fouling jump shooters and allowing offensive rebounds. These lapses provided Phoenix with second-chance opportunities, ultimately sealing their win.

Rebounding has been a challenge for the Warriors in the past, and it continues to be a concern. As a team with relatively small stature, inconsistent rebounding can have detrimental effects.

However, there is a silver lining. When the Warriors commit to ball movement, they can compensate for their size disadvantage. Sarić highlighted the importance of swinging the ball from side to side, particularly against bigger teams.

Unfortunately, the Warriors failed to consistently execute this strategy in their season opener, which is a key aspect of Kerr’s system.

The team recognizes the need for improvement and understands that it will take time to reach their desired level. The close four-point loss in their first game gives them hope, especially with Draymond Green’s imminent return.
