WhatsApp Introduces Email Verification for Improved Security and User Authentication

WhatsApp users can now link their accounts to an email address, allowing email verification as an alternative to SMS. Previously only available in beta, WhatsApp is rolling out this feature to all users.

WhatsApp adding email verification

Version 23.24.70 of WhatsApp for iPhone introduces the email verification feature. This feature acts as an alternative to SMS verification, primarily for users in areas with poor cellular coverage who need to log in to their WhatsApp account.

To add an email address to the account, users can head to the Your Profile tab, choose the Account menu, and then tap Email Address. WhatsApp states that the email address is solely for accessing the account and is not visible to other users.

It’s important to note that the email address is only used for authentication, and a valid phone number is still required to use WhatsApp. Additionally, users are awaiting the release of a new feature that will allow them to set a username to share with others instead of a phone number.

More about WhatsApp

In other news, WhatsApp recently launched its new macOS app, rebuilt to run natively on Mac computers. Users now also have the option to use two WhatsApp accounts on the same device, and support for passkeys has been added on Android devices.

For users interested in the new features, WhatsApp is available for free on the App Store. It’s recommended to install the latest version of the app to access all the new updates.
