If you’ve noticed a decline in your iPhone’s battery life, don’t fret, as you’re not alone.

There’s a logical explanation for this phenomenon. Once you’ve owned your iPhone, or any phone for that matter, for more than a year and have been charging it daily, its ability to retain a full charge gradually diminishes.

Over time, the battery’s capacity naturally deteriorates, exacerbated by factors like heat from the charger, frequent fast charging, and activities that elevate the phone’s temperature, such as gaming, as highlighted in a recent article by The Wall Street Journal.

If your iPhone can no longer hold more than 80% of its original charge, it may be time to consider replacing the battery. Fortunately, this is a service offered at Apple Stores, enabling you to prolong the lifespan of your iPhone, provided it is in proper working condition.

If your device is covered by AppleCare+, a program ranging from $3.99 to $13.49 per month depending on the iPhone model, you’ll be eligible for a free battery replacement. Otherwise, the cost of a new battery ranges between $69 and $99, depending on your iPhone model.

Determining the loss in your battery’s capacity is a breeze. Simply follow these steps:

  • Access your device’s Settings.
  • Select Battery.
  • Choose Battery Health & Charging.

Under the “Maximum Capacity” section, you’ll find the measure of your battery’s current capacity compared to its capacity when initially purchased. For instance, my iPhone 14 Pro Max, which I acquired last September, currently has a capacity of 87%. This explains why I don’t qualify for Apple’s complimentary battery replacement through the AppleCare+ plan I subscribe to. However, it does shed light on the reason why my battery life has appeared to decline.

If your phone displays a capacity below 80%, take it to an Apple Store for a swift and reasonably priced battery replacement. It’s an excellent way to amplify your iPhone’s battery life, particularly if you don’t require a new phone altogether.
