What is the cost of airport drop-off charges?

Airport drop-off charges in the UK have increased by nearly a third in the past year, according to data from the RAC. The steepest price hikes have been observed at Southampton and Belfast International airports. Southampton airport now charges £6 for a 20-minute drop-off, up from £4, while Belfast International charges £3 for a 10-minute drop-off, up from £1. Other airports such as London Stansted, Glasgow, and Aberdeen have also implemented price increases. However, there are some airports that still offer free drop-offs further away from the terminal. Despite the rising charges, some of the busiest airports have frozen their drop-off fees since last year. Notably, London Heathrow charges a flat fee of £5 with no time limit. Nicholas Lyes, RAC’s Head of Roads, suggests that conducting research ahead of traveling is crucial, as some airports provide free or reduced-rate drop-off areas in long-stay car parks with shuttle bus connections. This allows drivers to avoid expensive charges near the terminal. Lyes also warns against dropping off passengers on the roads inside the airport boundaries as it may result in penalty charges.
