What Activities do Britons Truly Engage in While Working from Home: DIY, Naps, and Sex?

According to a survey of 2,000 people, it has been found that a staggering 82% of individuals admit to watching TV during their workday. On average, this amounts to approximately two hours, or a quarter of the standard 8-hour shift. Interestingly, men were 5% more likely than women to indulge in TV watching instead of focusing on their work, spending around an extra nineteen minutes in front of the television.

In addition to TV watching, a quarter of individuals who work from home have used their work time to socialize with friends or family at least once over the past year. A similar number have utilized this time to engage in gardening or complete DIY projects. These findings come from research conducted by Digital Adoption, which reveals that approximately one in nine Britons have adopted a hybrid working pattern. Amongst those who work from home, millennials represent a significant portion, comprising one-third of this group.

However, the Chancellor has recently encouraged workers to return to the office instead of continuing to work from home. The rationale behind this is to stimulate creativity and productivity within the economy. Jeremy Hunt, speaking at the British Chambers of Commerce conference earlier this year, expressed his concerns about the potential loss of creativity that may result from individuals permanently working from home. He emphasized the value of spontaneous interactions and the exchange of ideas that occur during informal discussions between colleagues.

Statistics from the Office for National Statistics indicate that only 16% of individuals work entirely from home, while 28% divide their workweek between their homes and the office.
