Aug. 6 (UPI) — According to a statement released by the Westboro Baptist Church, Hawaii is said to be “utterly destroyed” due to the deceitful teachings of the local churches. The church plans to publicly denounce the people of Hawaii on Sunday, protesting at three churches in the region. More details can be found in the official statement.
The targeted churches for the protest are Grace Bible Church and King’s Cathedral in Kahului, as well as Wailuku Union Church in Wailuku.
The motive behind Westboro Baptist Church’s decision to travel from Topeka to Maui for these protests remains unclear, as well as their reasoning for believing in Hawaii’s destruction. UPI has reached out to the churches involved for their comments and perspectives on the matter.
Notably, Westboro Baptist Church is infamous for its controversial demonstrations. In 2012, the church announced plans to picket at Sandy Hook Elementary School shortly after a tragic shooting incident that claimed the lives of 28 individuals, including 20 children. The church member at the time, Shirley Phelps-Roper, expressed her twisted beliefs before her Twitter account was hacked by the hacker collective known as Anonymous’ Cosmo the God.
Anonymous then leaked private information about the church members, which further exposed the church’s extensive history of spreading hate towards the LGBTQ+ community.
