Hosting their first top-flight match since April 1992, Luton Town, known as the Hatters, aimed to start strong. Ross Barkley had an early opportunity, but his volley went wide of the box.
West Ham struggled to create chances in the beginning, with Said Benrahma’s shot veering off-target. Barkley had another chance for Luton, but failed to test the visiting goalkeeper.

However, West Ham did find the back of the net in the 37th minute. Lucas Paqueta had time and space to find Bowen, who powered a close-range header past the Luton goalkeeper.
Luton responded well, creating chances through Elijah Adebayo and Ryan Giles, but failed to equalize before the half ended.
The second half started with controversy as Emerson’s goal for West Ham was disallowed due to an offside call after a VAR check.
Luton continued to press for an equalizer, with Marvelous Nakamba delivering a dangerous ball into the box. However, Adebayo missed the chance under pressure from Aguerd.
Bowen had another opportunity in the 61st minute, but failed to beat the Luton goalkeeper once again.
With the home crowd rallying behind them, Luton pushed for a goal and came close through Carlton Morris, but his shot deflected off Aguerd and went over the bar.
West Ham sealed the victory in the 86th minute as James Ward-Prowse’s corner found Kurt Zouma, who headed the ball into the net.
Luton managed to pull one back in stoppage time through Morris, but it was not enough as West Ham held on for the win.
